:: EMA Rail Solution for Para P14 with upgrades

Since my original post I have added adjustable Novak tritium night sights and a much better light, in the form of an Insight WX150, and acquired a Fobus holster that will actually accommodate the EMA rail - if not perfectly...

:: Beautiful Wood

Who scores an old, but nice, .22lr revolver for $75...and then puts $90 handmade grips on it? I do. Much love for pvtschultz on eBay for the great work. He only does grips for single action revolvers, but if you have one he'll make you love it even more.

:: Light for the Lovely Lady's Oly...

Piece of Magpul polymer rail shaved to fit snug in the standard A2 carbine hand guard, Viking Tactical VTAC polymer light mount, SureFire G2 LED polymer tactical flashlight that was already hanging around, and viola!

:: Youtube review of SR1911

:: Sunday Chores

Saturday fun brings Sunday chores. Stripping and cleaning definitely qualifies as "guns and shooting stuff". I keep threatening to make my wife do it, but it's actually a lot of fun. I'm a big fan of the Otis stuff, and Wilson white grease - which they don't seem to make anymore so I'm glad I 'hoarded' a few tubes, and I've gptta say, the Caspian Pocketsmith was money very well spent as well. I have not found a better set of tools for general 1911 maintenance, and all riveted together so nothing gets lost or left behind. If you shoot 1911s, do yourself a favor and buy a couple of 'em.

:: Wife's 'old' pistol - S&W M&P .40

Up for sale  on gunbroker, if anyone's interested...now sold to a happy new owner.

:: Range Day

But no camera, so just a few crappy phone pictures to share. The KX3 works great on the SR556. It sends ALL the muzzle blast down range, even standing in the next to last lane, very close to the cinder block wall. The Super Hawg shot great as well. In fact it's probably capable of better than I can do with it. And my beautiful wife continues to enjoy her new adventures in the cult of the Yankee Fist.

:: SR556E

I swear I'm not working for Ruger, they're just dead on the money lately...like so.

:: Fire Breathing Pig

Just added a Noveske KX3 to my Ruger SR556. Range test to come as soon as I can manage.

His 'n Hers glamor shot. My wife's AR will be getting a new (XM177 style) flash suppressor soon as well.

:: Super Hawg Update

Added one of my hoarded Pachmayr Arched Mainspring Housings to expand the hand's contact with rubbery goodness...

:: Ruger 1911

I'm not a "single stack guy" but I am interested in this. Ruger is definitely shaking things up since Daddy Warbucks left this mortal coil.

:: Para Ordnance Super Hawg Longslide

All new, all mine. There are benefits to having your wife join the 1911 club. Six inches of barrel and sixteen rounds of .45acp equals much joy. Added a Hogue wraparound rubber monogrip and a Wilson extended stainless slide stop right off the bat of course.

:: It's about damn time.

BEEN waiting for one like this. BFAM sent me the link in a fit of jealousy after I scored the subject of my next post...

:: 75 dolla, make ya holla...

Pawn shops are evil places that suborn burglary and suck the light out of lives, but I score some cool shit cheap in them...and even cheaper in the parking lots when I'm really lucky. I was actually amp shopping...

:: Range Day

The beautiful wife is feeling better, so....range day! I may regret this one though, as she is now insisting that one of my favorite Para Ordnance P14 .45s is hers...community property state and all. Can't say I'm too upset at my wife becoming a 1911 convert. Long live the Yankee Fist!

It never hurts to reiterate these either...for newcomers and old timers.
1. Always assume that every gun is loaded.
2. Never point a gun at anything you are not willing to destroy.
3. Never put your finger on the trigger until your sights are on the target.
4. Always be sure of your target and what is behind it.

And now for the fun stuff...

My beautiful wife and her trusty S&W M&P .40

Then very excited with  my old  her new Para P14...

As usual, no pictures of me. Maybe one day I'll make an appearance on my own blog. So 'til next time...

:: GGP Weekend Continues with "Thumper"

This was, and still is, my first Para Ordnance P14. She was originally purchased as a lightweight alloy frame kit with a 13 round magazine, then pieced together with an old nickel plated Colt Commander top end and guts. She shows her 1980s heritage with her long Videcki trigger, Ed Brown Ambidextrous thumb safety, King's extended slide release, Pachmayr grip safety and mainspring housing, and Dwyer Group Gripper barrel link kit. She's also grown a set of Hogue wrap around grips, like almost every center fire pistol I own, and set of Meprolight adjustable tritium night sights - no slide butchering needed.

God knows how many thousand rounds of Hydrashok, Gold Dot, Black Talons, and TAPs later and all she's lost are a few recoil springs and a bit of finish around the edges. For her fashion shot she's wearing one of my newer (only a few years old) favorite IWB holsters, a CQC by Blackhawk, with a spare mag in one of the newer Bianchi pouches I mentioned in my last post.

And those 20+ year old, 13 round, "vintage" Para Ordnance factory magazines have been replaced for most uses by the newer factory 15 round models, and show a lot of bare metal these days, but they still work in every Para I own.

:: GGP Post - P14 with Navidrex Rosewood Grips

Gratuitous Gun Porn counts as gun stuff, right? Hell yes it does. There hasn't really been any time to shoot during or since the holidays, so here is one of my beloved old Para Ordnance P14s that I fitted with a set of Navidrex rosewood grips that I've had laying around for years, in between web update jobs at home. I say fitted because the left panel needed some creative whittling to allow the thumb safety to snap down into the firing position, which would be a bad thing to find out at the wrong time, hence the fact that they have been laying in a drawer since I bought them a few years back. They both needed a bit over glue scraped where the tabs fit the back of the trigger bow slots in the frame as well. It's hard to find nice grips for P14s though, so it was a small price to pay and a bit of fun as well, and I'm pleased with the outcome overall.

I also included a picture of this pistol in one of my older concealed carry rigs, that being a very well worn and seemingly indestructible Bianchi Professional IWB holster and mag pouches. These exact mag pouches are long since discontinued, which is a damn shame, but I have some of the newer replacement Model 21 mag pouches also, and they do work well. The old ones were Model 10a, if I remember correctly. If you find some snap 'em up, or better yet, send a link to me.

:: Ruger LC9

New Ruger LC9...and I fully expected to laugh when they debuted the "next handgun you must own." Oh, well. I believe my almost new LCP may now be for sale, with holster, 3 spare mags, and a couple hundred rounds of Gold dot, if anyone is interested...LOL.

:: EMA Rail Solution

So my EMA "bolt-on" Tactical Rail was a failure, as it rocked down to almost a 45 degree angle with just one magazine put through the pistol. I readjusted it, tightened the allen screws to the point of stripping one, and even tapped it onto the frame where it should get some friction with a hammer, all to no avail.

So my thoughts turned to a solution, rather than trying to get the now unintentionally "permanently" installed rail off without drilling out the allen screw with the hopelessly stripped head. There was finish damage to the frame as well, and I had no desire to pay to have it refinished, as this is a working gun.

I had an idea to have the rail and frame drilled and tapped, as was common when so many hunting rifles were not supplied with integral scope mounts or drilled and tapped from the factory, so that screws could be installed to hold the rail securely in place.

All told it was far more trouble than just having an after market rail added in the first place, so that is probably what I will do next time. It does, however have more attachment points than those systems - four horizontally drilled and tapped screws plus a clamp on the trigger guard with two tension screws, so in the end it may be a better system.

Only time and hard use will tell, and it will get the use.

:: "Happiness is a warm gun." - Lennon / McCartney

Or, as I alternately like to call it, ARs at dawn. I finally got to wring out my new to me Aimpoint Comp ML2 2x on my not new to me Ruger SR556, and was most pleased. It is mounted with an ARMS #17 Single Lever Tri-Lock Mount and an ARMS #22M68 Full Spacer.

I also got to test my mechanical zero I did on my Olympic after installing a TruGlo tritium fiber optic front sight and a Trijicon tritium rear sight, and it was happily dead on.

My brother from another mother (hereafter referred to as BFAM) sighted in his new Eotech 517.A65 that he added to his POF 415 as well, and was pleased with his new setup also.

It might be worthy of note that I also scored a third degree burn on the inside of my left leg from the bizzare happenstance of wearing cargo shorts and combat boots, plus my sock rolling down over the outside of my boot, plus a piece of extremely hot brass from a chamber that had had several magazines run through it in short order bouncing off the barricade and straight down inside my boot through the tiny gap that was created whejn my leg was twisted just so, where it got very painfully stuck. Ouch just doesn't really get there. Watch that brass, especially after you've cooked your chamber pretty well...and never trust the odds.

We also spent some time with the pistols, as we always do. BFAM worked out with with his new girlfriend (Springfield XDM in .45acp) although I'm not sure he's ready to divorce his current wives (H&K USP and H&K USP Compact), and me with my beloved old (pre PXT) Para Ordnance P14s. I also got to test out my new EMA "add on" rail, and it sucked. I'll post more details on that, plus the outcome of my as-yet-untested solution, later.

We both dumped a few mags through our Ruger LCPs, which seem to be breaking in successfully as well, and he sighted in his new Crimson Trace that he just added to his.
